I found this website very useful. It give an instant website and you can edit immediately to make it you own.  I also liked the fact that it is very visual. 

Potential for 'fiddling' ?? Couldn't immediately see how to add a flake of my own, as opposed to the supplied library.

Have a look at http://www.pageflakes.com/design and http://ahi2000.com/q5/pageflakes.html where you can see some examples and also get some 1-2-3 guides to help get started. The library is pretty vast and many panels can be 'fiddled' with! Quite a few people are also developing their own new panels but I have no idea how they do that - check out some of the forums linked from several of the panel information pages.
