facebook's Page Manager can be used to display information, links, news etc. in a way that will be pretty familiar to facebook users. You can also use inbuilt tools to promote it or share it across a limited selection of friends. It may not be the best 'page creation' tools around but, bearing in mind the market on its doorstep, it's worth experimenting with.

So far, all I have done is a webtools page which just has a feed from a blog (so it doesn't need any attention!!) and I used an 'event page' for a local party last year. That was excellent but it would require some lateral thinking to make it useful in an educational environment! I may add the link when I find it, though.
