Go! Animate is real fun for all animation lovers...even for the ones without any drawing skills!
This free web-based application allows users to create animation, e-messages and slideshows and share them with friends and the virtual world. It is necessary to register and join the community to start creating the first movie. First, people need to choose from different casts such as Star Trek, Akon, Willie Nelson or pick up Goanimate crew. Then, there are choices to do about characters to use, the environment as background and extra stuff to include in the scenes. Once decided, the director not only can make the characters talking through customized balloons, but s/he is involved in the real creation of the scene, that is the animation, with the help of a drop down menu to choose facial expressions, movements, actions or emotions. After that, the director needs to make use of the zoom, cut and pan effects. The zoom effect is essential to engage the viewers as it enables to control the timing and speed of the tool. Sometimes it must be slower! The pan effect is also important to get audience's attention as it enables to move the camera from one place to another.
Finally, to embellish and make the clip personal the service allows to upload images from the web, the PC (up to 8MB) or the social network FLICKR and add sounds as background or character's voices.
Once saved, users can make the animation private, public or private sharing. There is always the opportunity to get the code to embed the video into personal webpages!

I created my first animation for the Wiki home page of TELL-Tools and Projects, which features Andrew (the founder of the e-tools.pb.works) as one of the characters!!! The interface is user-friendly and it really doesn't require any previous related skills. The most demanding part is how to deal with the zoom and pan effects. The service provides effective video tutorials, so after a few tries you will be able to save and share your first creation!!!
Mine is at http://grou.ps/tell_toolsandprojects/wiki if you want to have a look!

The obvious problem I encountered was that I didn't manage to set the photo (the small picture uploaded on the screen of the pc) background while Andrew, the character, was walking. In fact, you can notice Andrew walking and passing through the photo! Fortunately, it was just the end of the scene!!!!! :-(
